“IBM will incorporate Cloud Foundry into its open cloud architecture, and put its full support behind Cloud Foundry as an open and collaborative platform for cloud application development, as it has done historically for key technologies such as Linux and OpenStack,” Sabbah said.
The move reflects how IBM, one of the biggest supporters of Open Stack and Linux, has seemingly shifted in recent years to embrace open source software development.
The partnership will see the two collaborate on the technology enabling programming languages and frameworks to be deployed on the Cloud Foundry platform, and IBM is already said to be trialling WebSphere Application Server Liberty Core, a slimmed down version of the company’s flagship software application server.
Pivotal will also establish a community advisory board for Cloud Foundry users and vendors (including IBM) to help guide community development.
